Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about SottoScribe

The basics

What is SottoScribe?

SottoScribe is a voice dictation app for Windows that converts your speech to text using AI. Unlike other dictation tools, it runs 100% locally on your computer — your voice is never sent to any server or cloud service.

What does "100% local" mean?

Your voice is processed entirely on your own computer. Your audio is never uploaded to any server. No cloud processing, no accounts, no data collection.

Your voice literally never leaves your machine.

Does it work offline?

Yes, completely. Once installed, you never need an internet connection to use SottoScribe. Perfect for planes, trains, or anywhere with unreliable WiFi.

How accurate is it?

SottoScribe uses state-of-the-art AI speech recognition. It handles accents, background noise, and natural speech patterns significantly better than Windows built-in speech recognition.

There's also optional AI-powered grammar cleanup that fixes spelling, punctuation, and common dictation errors.

System requirements

What do I need to run SottoScribe?

Windows 10 or 11, approximately 3GB of disk space, and a microphone. That's it.

An NVIDIA graphics card significantly speeds up transcription, but it's not required — SottoScribe works on CPU too, just a bit slower.

Is there a Mac or Linux version?

Not yet. SottoScribe is currently Windows-only. Mac and Linux versions are being considered for the future.

Do I need to install anything else?

No. SottoScribe includes everything it needs — no separate downloads, no dependencies, no Python or other runtimes to install.

Comparison

How is this different from Windows Speech Recognition?

SottoScribe uses modern AI speech recognition that's significantly more accurate than Windows built-in speech recognition. It handles accents and background noise much better.

Plus, SottoScribe includes AI-powered grammar cleanup, 50+ voice commands, and text shortcuts — features Windows Speech Recognition doesn't have.

How is this different from Voicy or Wispr Flow?

Privacy. Voicy and Wispr Flow send your voice to cloud servers for processing. SottoScribe processes everything locally — your voice never leaves your computer.

SottoScribe is also a one-time purchase (£49) rather than a subscription (Wispr Flow is £12/month) or higher upfront cost (Voicy is £175).

What about PowerToys?

PowerToys is free and uses Windows built-in speech recognition. It's a decent option if you just need basic dictation and don't mind lower accuracy.

SottoScribe is for people who want better accuracy, AI grammar cleanup, voice commands, and most importantly — complete privacy with local processing.

Purchase & licensing

Is it a subscription?

No. £49 one-time, forever. No monthly fees, no annual renewals, no API costs.

Are updates included?

Yes. Your purchase includes all future updates at no extra cost.

Can I use it on multiple computers?

Yes. Your licence can be activated on up to 3 computers — enough for your desktop, laptop, and a spare.

What's your refund policy?

30-day money-back guarantee, no questions asked. If SottoScribe doesn't work for you, just get in touch and we'll refund your purchase.

What if I change computers?

Your licence allows 3 activations. If you've used them all and need to move to a new machine, just get in touch and we'll reset it for you.

Technical

Will it slow down my computer?

SottoScribe only uses resources when you're actively dictating. When idle, it sits quietly in your system tray using virtually no CPU or memory.

During transcription, it uses your NVIDIA GPU if available (fast) or CPU if not (slower but still works). Typical transcription takes 1-3 seconds.

Does it work with any application?

Yes. SottoScribe types text wherever your cursor is — any text field, any application. Word, Outlook, Chrome, Slack, your custom internal software — if you can type in it, SottoScribe works with it.
